pvd hARD COATING

PVD hard coating uses a similar vacuum deposition coating method as the standard PVD coating. Both multi arc and magnetron sputtering coating technologies can be used for the PVD hard coating.

The differences between PVD hard coating and the standard PVD coating are:

  • The materials enclosed in the vacuum chamber are heated to a maximum temperature of 500 celcius
  •  The duration of the coating time is longer
  • 10x hardness
PVD hard coating is one of the best methods for optimising the hardness to residual compressive stress ratio. The vacuum deposition method coats the products with a film of hard refractory material 2-7 microns thick.
characteristics of pvd hard coating

Titanium hard coating can be used on certain materials, such as tool steel, carbide and stainless steel.

types of pvd hard coating

The types of PVD hard coating are Titanium Nitride (TiN), Titanium Carbide (TiC), Titanium Carbo-Nitride (TiCN), Aluminium Titanium Nitride (AlTiN) or Titanium Aluminium Nitride (TiAIN), Chromium Nitride (CrN), Aluminium Chromium Nitride (AlCrN) and Chromium Aluminium Titanium Nitride (CrAITiN) coating.

characteristics of various coating

The characteristics of various coating can be hardness (HV), thickness (µm), colours and coating temperature (°C).
